If you’re in the ad business, there’s probably been a time when you’ve wondered if Michael Kassan has doppelgangers to help him be in several places at once. But now you can get ready for the chairman-CEO of media and marketing advisory firm Medialink to get even more ubiquitous.
Clear Channel has signed Mr. Kassan to produce a daily short-form interview show, “Medialinked — Inside Advertising and Media with Michael Kassan.” The show will be recorded in New York City and Los Angeles and air three times a day on WOR 710 AM in New York (5:45 am, 10:45 am and 5:45 pm), as well as around the internet on iHeartRadio and wor710.com.
Like a lot of things with Mr. Kassan, there are a couple angles to the pact. Clear Channel signed Mr. Kassan to a talent deal, but the radio giant is also one of Medialink’s bigger clients and the company just expanded his role to “special advisor” to the chairman, Bob Pittman.
A fixture at industry events, Mr. Kassan recorded 25 interviews for Clear Channel during Advertising Week in September, including conversations with Conde Nast CEO Charles Townsend (also a Medialink client), WPP CEO Sir Martin Sorrell, and David Cohen, chief media officer of Universal McCann.
“I did it as a special thing to celebrate Advertising Week in New York,” he said. “They got a good response.”
Mr. Kassan is also known for his interviews during his “Brand Matters” keynotes at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Clear Channel will be selling the new segments to advertisers. “I won’t have to sell it,” Mr. Kassan said, “I just have to show up with my pretty voice.”
Mr. Kassan gets to pick his own interview subjects, so don’t be surprised to hear a lot of Medialink clients get radio time. Asked if he will disclose where there is a client relationship, Mr. Kassan said, “I always do.”
